About The Heart Institute
Award-Winning Cardiac Care
Nationally recognized by the American College of Cardiology for our emergency heart attack care, the Heart Institute at Anne Arundel Medical Center is the third busiest cardiac program in the state of Maryland. Each year, our cardiac team performs hundreds of diagnostic and interventional cardiac procedures, including both elective and emergency angioplasty to open clogged arteries and restore blood flow to the heart, and electrophysiological studies to diagnose and treat many types of arrhythmias.
State-of-the-Art Cardiac Facilities
The hospital has three cardiac catheterization labs that operate 24/7, every day of the year. Each lab is staffed by an expert team of doctors and nurses who are specially trained in cardiac care.
Addressing the Threat of Heart Disease in Our Community
In Anne Arundel County, the heart disease rate exceeds both the state and national average, and heart patients are becoming younger each year. In 2009, the average age of Anne Arundel Medical Center cardiac patients was 70. In 2012, the average age of our cardiac patients dropped to 60. Through our expanding, state-of-the-art cardiac cath labs and facilities, as well as our ever-growing community outreach efforts, which include heart health classes and cardiovascular screenings, the Heart Institute at Anne Arundel Medical Center intends to reverse these alarming trends.
